Question:
Sorry for importunity – another question. We use galvanized steel where possible. What would you recommend for the edge protection and in general?
Answer:
Still, if a company survives on small orders and due to the total savings requirement it can not avoid using the galvanized steel, we can recommend protecting the edges of the galvanized steel after cutting and bending by painting, coating by structural adhesives or sealant. Do not forget to thoroughly wipe the edge with the solvent (acetone, White spirit, 647) for the surface degreasing before coating.
Do not use self-tapping screws for fastening the flanges of the cassettes to the steel with thickness 0,5 to 0,7 mm. A self-tapping screw is held on 1 to 1,5 thread turn, that does not provide the holding strength. Cassettes of the composite, which are fastened with self-tapping screws to the wings of deflected sides, will show up in the form of convex or concave surfaces on the front side when exposed to heating or cooling. As for "in general", use professional systems of underfacing structures for façade cladding. Our advice is to be a pro.

Question:
Don't they use the galvanized steel when mounting the facades in Europe?
Answer:
In some publications of European companies describing the substructure and mounting schemes of the cassettes the solutions with application of galvanized steel can be found. Unfortunately, the methods of processing the edges after cutting are not specified there.

Question:
So, in your opinion, when the facing cassettes are installed to the galvanized steel structure, irresponsibility is the case?
Answer:
Not exactly. There are workable underfacing structure systems of galvanized steel, but they are far more expensive than those made of aluminum alloy.

Question:
Then, why do they use the galvanized steel for making the esconsons and window sills when facing the facades?
Answer:
It is easier and cheaper to fit the planes on the spot. Cutting and bending the pieces of the galvanized steel can be made even in the hanging cradle.

Question:
Why for hinged facade manufacturing do they use the composite based on painted aluminum-polymer sandwich instead of galvanized iron sheets, or even better, a similar metal-polymer-metal sandwich, as it is much stronger and the painting can be exactly the same?
Answer:
After cutting the sheets of galvanized steel or the composite based on it and bending the cassette, the edges will not be protected from corrosion.
